YESTERWHEN Have you ever been on the Merry-Go-Round, And never quite reached the brass ring? Have you ever tried to walk the dog, And your Yo-Yo run out of string? Have you ever tried to hook a monkey, When its tail had broken apart? Have you ever climbed a ladder with chutes, Just to slide back down to start? Have you ever tried to blow a bubble, When the soap in the jar was thin? Have you ever bounced a ball called super, Just to never find it again? Have you ever held a doll so tight, You would never let it go? Barbie could be missing all her clothes, And no head on your G.I. Joe. These simple things we held so dear, Were as important as husband and wife. We knew from the start, We were all a part, Of this Ferris Wheel of life. Our Slinkys uncoiled and fell down the stairs, Our marbles were kept in a pouch. Come Saturday morning, the guys and gals, Watched TV on each others couch. Trooper Terry had his viewer on, The kids all sat in a row. To be invited to the birthday party, Was indeed the grandest show. Four Pepsi caps, and a Kelly wrapper, Would get you into the club. A Tarzan yell, and a Stooges flick, Took the place of Mr. Bubbles in the tub. Have you ever been in puppy love, When your brow and palms both sweat? Have you ever told that sixth grade friend, That they were you favorite yet? These simple things we held so dear, Were as important as husband and wife. We knew from the start, We were all a part, Of this Ferris Wheel of life.
