YET ANOTHER FIRST! I have stated this time and time again that this year would be the first of everything without Ella. As we sat on the beach this past week watching the children play our minds drifted back to last year when Julie, Ella and I were playing in the surf and burying each other in the sand. Several times I heard a girl’s voice yell “Daddy” and for a brief moment turned as if it was my Ella. Today I received the most beautiful gift from Beth Ann Stuart which made me burst into tears. Beth had sewn most of Ella’s outfits since her birth so she made me a pillow from the cloth material of a number of those outfits. It was complete with her little initials (EMF) and other sweet gestures such as MSU and WAR EAGLE (representing our colleges). Tomorrow will be yet another “first” as we celebrate our first Father’s Day childless. Again, I totally get the fact that we have multiple children in Heaven but it is still hard to swallow. I miss joking with Ella and hearing her say, “Oh Daaaaad!” as she laughed at my stupid jokes. This past Friday night three of Mom’s children were sitting outside in the swings singing childhood songs and as we began singing “Sweet Violets” I stopped singing as I got to the chorus because that would be when Ella would began to sing. Those of you who have lost children know that grief hits you when you least expect it. For those of you who have lost children I want you to know that I am praying for your hearts tomorrow. My suggestion is to stay focused on God’s promises and when they ask all the Fathers to stand during church services tomorrow, stand tall knowing that your child or children are only a heartbeat away from you and you will see them again soon.
