[YEW TEE CALL TO ACTION] Operation Wishing Crane: Dear friends, - TopicsExpress

[YEW TEE CALL TO ACTION] Operation Wishing Crane: Dear friends, through your strong support the #HeartofYewTee continues to beat strong! This month, I would like to make a simple but special appeal. As you see from the video, Ive been folding orizurus (origami cranes). What is the significance you may ask. Well, there is a Japanese tradition called senbazuru that anyone who folds a thousand wishing cranes will be granted a wish. And that is my appeal, that youll help us grant many many wishes to two very special young girls living right here in the #HeartofYewTee. The first girl is Kelly. Kelly has Gauchers Disease, a rare neurological disorder that has left her bedridden and out of school for the last two years. It has been a struggle for her mom, who has taken on the role of a full time caregiver, 24/7. It is a drain on them emotionally and physically. Our volunteers have been journeying with the two of them for the last one year and your generosity has also meant weve been able to provide a years supply of milk powder for Kelly. Our hope now is to eventually find a treatment for Kelly to give her a better quality of life, and for Kellys mom to rediscover her smile and confidence, sure in the knowledge that we in the community will always be here for them. The second young lady is familiar to many of you. Her name is Charmaine. Charmaine has Senior-Loken Syndrome, another rare condition that has left her with kidney failure. She is all of 21 but has seemingly gone through many lifetimes of dealing with this illness. The renal failure has unfortunately robbed her of her sight in the middle of this year, which devastated many of us who have journeyed with them over the last 2 years, and even more so for her family. But there is hope, after a long arduous search, weve managed to locate a matching donor for Charmaine and she is scheduled to finally undergo kidney transplant on 8 October. Her loving mother will also be donating her kidney on the same day to someone else. The surgery offers hope for Charmaine, but it is not without risks, especially with her condition. Charmaines mother is also taking a big risk. Our wish for them is that they will be in the best of health when they head into surgery. We also hope that the surgeries will go smoothly and they will have a smooth recovery and the future will be bright for them. They and many of our residents in different circumstance need your wishes and prayers. Regardless of your faith or beliefs, whether you fold one, or two or a thousand wishing cranes, you can make a simple difference by encouraging them, to grant them courage and fortitude. Please feel free to share this simple video (apologies for a very amateurish first attempt at stop motion). Help spread the word and help us send many wishes to Kelly, Charmaine, their families and the many other families we are journeying with! You can send your cranes to Yew Tee Community Club at 20 Chua Chu Kang Street 52. Well be helping to string them together. Please leave us your name and contacts as well so we can send out thanks to you! Thank you for starting from the heart! Yew Tee, Starting from the Heart! 油池,从心开始!#HeartofYewTee #OperationWishingCrane
