YOM KIPPUR MESSAGE To be delivered by Uzziyahu HaCohen Erev Shabbat, 13.9.13 The meaning of Yom Kippur has certainly evolved for us as a people aligned with Truth in an ascending motion. Where did the idea/concept of “Kippur” (כיפור) come from? The word כיפור grows from the root: כפר. We find the first reference to this root-idea in the book of Genesis; the story of Noah and the Great Flood: And Yah said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. Genesis 6:13-14 The Hebrew source for the phrase: “pitch it” as well as the the word “pitch” is כפר, which in its simplest form means to coat or cover with pitch. In other words, the pitch (הכופר) is a sealant, with the ability to bind & seal the gopher wood parts of the ark. It was the “kopher” or pitch that gave the ark its integrity; without which the ark would be destined to be breached and consumed by the waters. This sealing and binding together of parts produces the state of integrity or “at-one-ment”. Definition of integrity and atonement from Wiktionary.org: in·teg·ri·ty noun in-ˈte-grə-tē Steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical code. The state of being wholesome; unimpaired The quality or condition of being complete; pure atone·ment noun ə-ˈtōn-mənt Etymology Perhaps from atone + -ment; however, the noun is found earlier than the verb (atone); and in this light, the proper etymology is at + onement. Noun atonement (plural atonements) A repair done for the sake of a damaged relationship. So, at-onement is not just a play on words; this is the true source and meaning of the word. To become one, integrous unit. To become complete, pure. To become WHOLE. This is the eternal idea of Yom Kippur! To reconcile with the Whole and to become (the) Whole. Take a look at the rear cover of the pamphlet, “The Whole Day”… Definition – WHOLE: Free of wound or injury; free of defect, damage or impairment; physically sound and healthy Having all its proper parts or components; lacking nothing that belongs to it; diminished or reduced in no way Constituting an undivided unit; directed to one end; completely focused or channeled; not scattered or dispersed. The Messianic Glossary, Communicators Press This is the desired end result: at-onement with Yah! To come out on the other side of this day completely focused and channeled; not scattered or dispersed. Speaking of scattered (i.e. “scatter-brained”), this is the condition that results from being immersed in the satanic lair of deception. Let us read from the chapter, Atonement and Repentance, from God, and the Law of Relativity (published some 22 years ago!): “Satan proposes (has set up a system) to always keep his subjects in such a quandary wherein your immediate needs are always too pressing to consider the events going on around you in depth, or contemplate your future.” GLR p. 92 Can we relate to this? Are we familiar with this ‘quandary’? Who truly takes the time to stop and consider what is going on around them, in depth anymore. We have been inundated with knowledge/information and gadgetry (‘smartphones’ and soon, ‘smartwatches’ and we are more confused (dumber) and more scatter-brained than ever! The condition has been aptly described as cognitive dissonance (Dehumanization p. 40). So what should we be doing on this Shabbat and Yom Kippur? Pray! Fast! Medidate! Focus your Thoughts! Think Deeply! This is not a day for vain conversations and prattle. Make sure you are in the proper realm of thinking to allow Truth to penetrate, bind and seal your thoughts & conscience with the YAH-mind. “Satan has ignited self-destructive, internal wars in the minds of the people; these wars are ultimately made manifest on the planet. Thought precedes substance. What you believe, know and do must be unified (at-one). Truth will then give man the courage to tackle and solve the external problems, which are a direct result of his internally divided mind. This, he will tap into the vast reservoir of energy (the oneness of YAH) an energy that can only be tapped into through acceptance of Truth. This new beginning starts with our being reconciled with YAH, the Creator, after which we make a commitment to maintain a relationship of purity and holiness, and to be perpetually active on his behalf.” God and the Law of Relativity p. 94 Selah
