YOU ARE FIRED!!! What’s the worse news you can receive on a Monday morning? Now no matter how rude or polite Oga sounded when he delivered the news, the fact remains, you are now un-hired. House rent is due next month, you don’t have a saving, and you are still repaying the loan you took to buy that car (so effectively your severance benefits would be used to offset the bills you should pay). What’s more, you are 45, you have never tried any other workplace and neither do you have any side business to fall back on. Your wife is a fulltime house wife, you have three kids in school and the latest addition to the family is nursing on momma’s breast. But you know your company cannot continue to keep all staff happy as there has been no business inflow for the past 13months. Where o where will you start from? Recall that you have gathered no skills useful outside your last job in the last 15 years since you got this job and the thought of going round with your CV is totally out of the question. What will you do? Will you suddenly remember that you even had a call of God and should be on full time? What asset do you have to sell to get capital and try another line of business? Phew wake up man…… thank God it was just a dream!!! But track back now with me because you are just 35 and yes you have your job and there’s no such heart breaks to worry about now but broo have you noticed that the way your life is headed, this nightmarish dream could be a reality? E go better e go better wey you dey talk since after NYSC 8yrs don waka o. Government bad e go soon good? Is that the excuse you are going to give to your kids and to God? Remember how you wished you had a big bro when you were in university? Now you are your younger ones big bro what have you done to ease the financial burden on your father? Pop’s literarily paying their fees from his retirement money men! Gaskiya you’ll need to take time out and sit down with yourself ask yourself honest questions like; • What on earth am I here for? • What has God placed inside of me? • How much of it have I effectively deployed? • Where is my life headed? • What will happen when chua chua that currently balances my salaries is no longer there? • What are the odds I won’t end up a frustrated 45 year old with the way I am currently living? • What is the peak of my career path? What do I do to attain that peak? What are the odds I’ll ever get there? • What education do I need to make me better and marketable than I am currently? • How can my wife contribute? What’s she good at? Is she happy to just sit and grow fat on the small change I give her? I think these random ramblings got my writing swag flowing again.
