YOU ARE THE SALT OF THE EARTH “You are the salt of the earth…” (Matthew 5:13). What are the qualities of salt? a) Salt is white. This connotes purity, holiness. (Psalm 93:5). “Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becomes thine house, O lord, forever” “Your testimonies are very sure, holiness adorns your house, O lord, forever” (Matthew 5:28, Proverb 6:25; 1 Peter 1:15-16; Hebrew 12:14). b) Salt is sweet (Luke 14:34; Mark 9:50). Wherever a child of God is, there should be no malice, rancor, bitterness and sweetness. There should be peace. There should be no rebellion c) Salt preserves: Christianity should preserve the society from corruption. Nigeria and CAC are children of the same mother. • Nigeria is blind • Nigeria is lame • Nigeria has a hunch back. See the map. It is stated that the prayers of the late Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola brought about the discovery of petroleum in Nigeria. d) Salt is humble; It is not proud When you put a salt into a soup or anything you are cooking, it goes down, therefore making everything sweet. On the other hands, other ingredients are always struggling, jumping up to show themselves e.g. palm oil, Onion and even meat or fish in the boiling pot. Therefore a child of God should be humble: (Matthew 23:12, Proverb 15:33, 18:12, Philippians 2:5-11, 1 Peter 5:6). c) salt is very common . It is available hence it is called common salt. We children of God should make ourselves available anywhere we are needed. 2) We are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Wherever we are, people must see the light of God through us. “God miraculously delivered Jacob’s descendant from Egypt to give birth to the nation Israel. He blessed them with His word and other numerous blessings that they might be the outshine of His presence and holiness. We have the same commission! (Sunday school Teacher’s Manual January –June 2013 p.57) Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego could not be hidden in the gentile world. They were a city set on a hill which could not be hidden. When Daniel was threatened with the lion’s den “he went into his house; and his window being opened in his chamber toward Jerusalem , he kneeled upon his knees three time a day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime “ (Daniel 6:7-12). Before you can give light, you need five things: a) Power of holiness. (Psalm 15:1-5, psalms 24:3-6). b) Power of prayer. ( Zechariah 12:10, Luke 24:49, Act 1:8,Romans 8:26, 1Thessolanians 5:17) c) Power of faith. That Shedrach, Meshach, and Abednego had and were not afraid of death (Daniel 3;16-18) Oluwa ma je ki en ni ke ni fi iku deruba mi d) Power of the word of God. Quote the Bible in prayer. Quote a passge in the Bible where Jesus healed and claim your healing on the basis of that miracle. e) Power of the Holy Spirit. (Act 1: 8, Luke 24:49) God first, your family (Nucleus) second and your work next. Aninwuba***
