ACHEIVEMENT OF AFRICAN DESCENDANTS’ EQUAL HISTORY COMMEMORATIONS IS THE CIVIL/HUMAN RIGHTS MOVEMENT BEING FOUGHT IN THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY TODAY!* TWENTIETH CENTURY CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENTS DESEGREGATED: SCHOOLS, VOTING, GOVERNMENTS, POLITICAL/APPOINTED OFFICES, TRANSPORTATION, EMPLOYMENT PLACES, HOUSING, AND HEALTH SERVICES & ETC. HOWEVER THOSE MOVEMENTS DID NOT DESEGREGATE SYSTEMIC RACISM HISTORY! DESEGREGATING HISTORY Most systemic “mainstream” history in the Mississippi Valley covers up, deletes, omits, denies, disguises, sanitizes, white washes, and white out the humanity, history, legacies, heritage, culture and community development contributions of African Descendants in three major subject areas. S. Senator Thad Cochran’s generated grant for Forks feasibility study, Tourism Agency’s limited inclusion of Forks site to visit, Limited inclusion of slavery, “Blacks” in Civil War & 19th-20th centuries civil rights on Phase I Walking Trails panels, Development of a Phase II Walking Trail in “Black” Community • State of Mississippi: One-time grant to Natchez to purchase historic Forks land, Designation of Forks an archeology site & submission of historic landmark application, Lack luster support of Black & Blue Civil War events • Natchez Trace Parkway: Recovery of “Slave” Cemetery at Mt. Locust Inn, Erection of Broadside about Mt. Locust “Slaves” • Vicksburg National Military Park: Develop and added permanent exhibit in Visitors Center on African Descent Troops roles in Battle of Milliken’s Bend • Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program Southeast Region National Park Service: Inclusion of Forks as a site, $67,500 in grants to FRSI since 2001 to develop African/European Roots of Underground Railroad Traveling Exhibition, Proving Miss. River UGRR Route Memphis to Gulf of Mexico Research Project, Forks of Road Interpretive Brochure and Forks of Road Traveling Exhibition, Sponsored Bound For Glory on the Bayou Gathering In Baton Rouge in 2003 • Veterans Administration: Added 592 Black WWI names to Natchez’s U. S.
