YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS - SERIOUSLY Here, Kiwi born Anthony McCarten (Theory of Everything being his latest screenplay) outlines the importance of humour and laughter in our world: https://youtube/watch?v=b2qM1I-JCEQ As Anthony says: Seriousness is dangerous ... not only for ourselves but in society. Why should that be? Its partly that the forces of seriousness and humourlessness limit people to rigid thinking, narrow ideology, cruelty and tunnel vision (be it political, religious, avarice-driven or otherwise). Humour obliges us to have an open mind, it obliges empathy and forgiveness. Humour always forgives. Armed with humour, everything is possible. The relationship between humour and seriousness has, we may think, been long understood. But has it? May I offer an overriding point that such understanding has, as yet, to be understood in terms of the source of all-that-is. What many people may think of as understanding is, in point of fact, knowledge of their outside-in world ... their intellectual take on things (including seriousness and humour). As more people come to experience the cosmic humour of understanding (intelligence, common-sense, instinct ... inside-out) _ that life is all made up, moment by moment as Thought we feel ... and then act upon (including perhaps thinking that our false beliefs are things that may even require the extermination of the life of another human being ... or, alternatively, that we may love all-that-is because without all-that-is we could and would not exist ... and so on) _ then such people may see only the sensible actions to be taken (which will incorporate inter-dependency, collaboration and problem solving on a global scale, assuring our survival and that we may all thrive on a planet which offers all the resources we will need as we learn to think differently and purely with goodness in mind) And, along the way, people (the next generations) will be, do and have all this in good humour ... because, seriously, life s a joke ... a big cosmic joke and being serious is hard work because you have to think hard and long and even pray to be seriously intellectual and, alternatively, you may think wisdom and humour and so think intelligently _ so you cannot be serious - seriously
