YOU SPOKE; WE LISTENED!! We are pleased to announce that we have added another drop-off location for depositing your recyclable materials on a 24/7/365 basis! Look for the newly placed green container (like the photo below) on Bartlett Street, just behind (east) of the Emergency Services Building (ESB) on Maple Street. Many folks had let us know that they would likely recycle more materials if we made it more convenient for them. So, we not only went to single-stream recycling (everything in one bin; no sorting), we also placed a third roll-out container at the ESB. This new location will be open on a continuous but trial basis. If we encounter problems with the deposit of items that are not recyclable, including household trash or refuse, or if there is a large amount of litter around the site, we may consider closing it. While the new site will take everything on the Countys list (see chart below), we would still ask that those with large loads of cardboard, such as businesses, still use the cardboard compactor at the City Transfer Station at the end of Nicholls Street. Hours for the Station are Tuesday, 8 AM - 5 PM and Saturday, 8 AM - 4 PM. This helps us cut down the cost of transporting the cardboard because we can take much heavier loads out of the compactor than we could with the cardboard placed into a regular container. If you are leaving cardboard at the new site, please break down, or flatten, any boxes so they take up less room in the bin. The container does have a wide slot at the east end of the bin where larger flattened cardboard can be placed that might not fit in the window openings. You may not have heard that we now take several new items in the recycling bins; this will help you reduce your refuse going to the landfill even more! NEW ITEMS NOW ACCEPTED: ◾PET FOOD BAGS, FEED BAGS ◾CHIP & PRETZEL BAGS ◾AEROSAL CANS - Must be empty! ◾MOTOR OIL BOTTLES - Must be empty! ◾SMALL PROPANE CYLINDERS - Must be empty! ◾PAINT CANS - Must be empty! ◾HOLIDAY LIGHT STRINGS ◾MARINE/BOAT SHRINK WRAP The following items are NOT accepted at either the old or new site: ◾ HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES (they are accepted at True Value Hardware in East Jordan) ◾ JUICE BOXES OR POUCHES ◾ LIGHT BULBS, GLASS DISHES, WINDOW GLASS, MIRROR GLASS ◾ STYROFOAM PACKING PEANUTS OR PACKING CHIPS ◾ SHREDDED OR WHOLE CREDIT CARDS, VIDEO TAPES OR CDs Okay, now you should have NO EXCUSES to not increase the amount of materials you recycle, and decrease the rest going to the landfill! THINK GREEN!
