YOU are invited to attend the grand re-opening and living history event at the Fort Griffin State Historic Site on Fri/Sat Oct 10 and 11! For more than a year, visitation to has been restricted due to construction and preservation efforts. The official grand re-opening ceremony is at 1 p.m. on Sat, Oct 11. It will be exciting to see the new interpretive center! Theres a full slate of Living History activities on both Friday and Saturday from 8 AM to 5 PM! Living historians from all over will gather to portray life at the fort and nearby Wild West town as it was in the 1870s. Activities and interpretations will include: 1870s military interpretations with artillery, infantry, and cavalry demonstration, blacksmithing, gun fights, Drummer Boy ice cream, children’s games from the 1800s, period music by Time Was..., Native American culture and dancing, Texas longhorns, the Texas Camel Corps and Texas Camel Connection, and Traylor Livery and frontier living. As a special bonus, Fort Griffin will also host volunteers from Abilenes 12th Armored Division Memorial Museum who will be sharing World War II history with lots of period weaponry, which they plan to demonstrate!
