YOUNG PERSONS GUIDE TO 60s POP - 100 SONGS I LIKED AT THE END OF THE 60s. Wooah, going back 45 years now presents a few memory problems, to the extent that Im a handful short of the 100 - will make the remainder up when the brain cells kick in over the next few weeks. These were the 45s I couldnt hear enough of in 1969 - many heard on the radio, some bought new or deleted, a few given to me, a few bought randomly at 1960s Reigate jumble sales. Tragically, not all have video or even in a couple of cases audio links (the lack of the Bedrocks Hit Me On The Head is clearly a national scandal requiring a Royal Commission). Naturally, you can forget Hendrix, Joplin or Miles Davis - I was a pop kid, although there are a few heavier tunes dotted about. Best video - this era pre-dates pop videos, although one or two of the little performance art films (eg Bee Gees - I Started A Joke) are half-way there. Most ludicrous 60s gear - Sonny & Cher romp home: Sonnys mix of Sergeant Pepper and a padded straitjacket is a world-beater. And, although I was only 12 in 1969, mercifully only one of these tracks can be found in a well-known worlds worst records list. Ive labelled it to avoid anyone stumbling unknowingly onto it and needing therapy afterwards.
