YOUR OPINION MATTERS DO YOU THINK THE RESULTS OF THE REFERENDUM - TopicsExpress

YOUR OPINION MATTERS DO YOU THINK THE RESULTS OF THE REFERENDUM SHOULD COUNT EVEN IF THE VOTER TURNOUT IS LESS THAN 50%? As most of you know, I am a candidate for Councillor of Ward 5. My position on the Referendum is that regardless of the number of voters who cast ballots, the Councillor of a Ward must abide by the majority decision. Therefore, if the majority of voters in Ward 5 vote against the questions, then I will do nothing because that means the status quo will continue. But if the majority of voters in Ward 5 vote in favour of one or more of the questions, then I feel I am obligated to introduce a motion to City Council to make the change. It is understood that if the voter turn-out is over 50%, then the referendum results will be mandatory. But if the voter turn-out is less than 50% I still think it is my duty to be the voice of my constituents and act according to their wishes. So regardless of the voter turn-out, if there is a motion on the table at City Council dealing with any or all of the referendum questions, I will be voting in accordance with the results of the secret ballot voting of Ward 5 only. I would be curious to know what our members think of this position and will share the results on the Meet The Voters of Wards 5, 6 and 7 for all other candidates found at the following link: https://facebook/groups/MeetTheCandidates2014/
