YOURE INVITED The Columbus Community Orchestra will perform a 1914/1924 Tribute Concert Monday, October 27, 7:30 p.m. at St. Mark United Methodist Church Activity Center on Whitesville Road near Headquarters Nissan and a CB&T branch. Admission is free. 1914 marked the beginning of World War I, and 1924 was the year former President Jimmy Carter was born. The orchestra will play a medley of World War I songs. And, it will perform The Man from Plains: A Musical Tribute in honor of President Carters 90th birthday. It will be my honor to narrate that. CCO Conductor Bill Fry composed an impressive score of the songs of Carters life. The concert will also feature Peggy Jenkins singing Ma Raineys C.C. Rider. It will conclude with Gershwins masterpiece, Rhapsody in Blue. The U.S. Army Signal Corps photo is of soldiers of the 64th Regiment celebrating the the signing of the armistice that ended World War I, and the picture of President Carter was taken at Plainss Maranatha Baptist Church where he was conducting his Sunday School class.
