YURI KOCHIYAMA was a good friend of EL HAJJ MALIK EL SHABAZZ (pka MALCOLM X). Although they erase her from the movie, she was one of the first people to rush to help him when he was shot at the Audubon Ballroom. She was very active and supportive of progressive causes, especially the struggles of People of Color in the San Francisco Bay Area. We interviewed her on a number of different programs on KPFA Radio, and she was a gracious and articulate guest.
