Ya know, if I ever get a crack at this reincarnation thing, I think I’d like to come back as a palm tree. I had to dig one out of the garden over the weekend – to make room for some steps – and *never before* have I seen something with so many roots! (Ok, with the possible exception of One Direction). I could almost hear its Batfink-like voice in my head, taunting me as I toiled away: “Your mattock cannot harm me; my roots are like a shield of steel!” The take home message here, of course: I need more power tools! Well, doesnt everyone? A possible, though less fun alternative, is that I need to learn to make peace with the remaining 14 palm trees that someone - in their infinite wisdom - thought were a neat idea to plant round out place about 30 years ago ... which constitutes the longest standing practical joke than I am presently aware of =\
