Ya nye mago (I cant), Ella said. I looked at her plate. It was still half-full. I told her (mustve been the -th time already) to use her hands, take her spoon, scoop the food and put it in her mouth. She must have eaten only 5 spoons of the food that Ive served her. And the spoon was so tiny she didnt have to open her mouth big! Ella likes to eat, but only if she uses her fingers and only if the food is chu-chut (little). How I despair over her eating habits. It would be easier for me to take the food myself and put it in her mouth. But then, shell never learn how to feed herself. We all know that Our task as parents is not to eliminate every challenge for our children but to serve as a confident ally on their behalf, encouraging them when they are distressed, intervening when the threats are overwhelming, and above all, giving them the tools they need to overcome the obstacles (J. Dobson, Solid Answers) So I cheered her, told her she can stop eating after 3 more spoons (but by that time she was into eating that she forgot to count), and that she can swim in the bath after eating. Some days it works, other days it was like an uphill battle. Still we forge on. Because... (We) can do everything through Him who gives (us) strength. (Philippians 4:13 NIV) Yes, we can!
