I commend the Congress in developing a short-term budget to reopen the federal government while lifting the debt ceiling limit. Im encouraged that Democrats and Republicans are talking to resolve partisan differences. Theres still a lot of work to be done in the coming weeks for lawmakers to reach an agreement on a budget beyond January 15. During the budget negotiation process lawmakers must remember their trust obligations to Indian Country under federal laws and treaties. Indian Country has been severely damaged by Congress delay in reopening the government, an experience we do not wish to repeat. I look forward to working with the administration and Congress in the weeks ahead to push for equitable appropriations for Indian Country. ### nnwo.org/content/navajo-president-ben-shelly-issues-statement-house-passage-bill-reopen-federal-government
