Yamhill County fair announces ambassadors The Yamhill County Fair Board is pleased to announce the selection of Kayla Davis, Joanna Kubes, and Tia Piscitelli as the 2014 Ambassadors for this summer’s Yamhill County Fair and Rodeo. “Every year we have outstanding High School students from across Yamhill County who apply to represent the Fair and Rodeo as our Ambassadors. On behalf of the Fair Board, I want to thank all of this year’s applicants and to congratulate Joanna, Tia, and Kayla,” commented Joe Sharp, Fair Board member and one of the judges. Tia Piscitelli, a 2014 graduate of Newberg High School, expressed her appreciation for being chosen as an Ambassador and said, “Being selected as a 2014 Yamhill County Fair and Rodeo Ambassador is a huge honor and an amazing way to represent my school, hometown and county. Since the second grade, I have been a 4-H member and am proud to share my stories and love of my fair”. Kayla Davis, a 2014 graduate of Yamhill-Carlton High School, stated similar sentiments, “I want to thank the Fair Board for giving me this opportunity to make presentations to the community about our upcoming Fair as well as describing my 4-H and FFA experiences. I particularly like that the Yamhill County Fair and Rodeo is a family-oriented event that helps youth learn responsibility and leadership.” Joanna Kubes, who will be a senior at Dayton High School this September, remarked, “I am so pleased to be named as one of the Ambassadors for 2014. I want to encourage those who are younger to set their goals high. I want to make a positive influence in my school and the community I live in. Yamhill County’s Fair brings our community together and allows us all to meet new people.” The Ambassadors have a busy spring and summer planned to promote the Yamhill County Fair and Rodeo. They will participate in parades at various festivals throughout the county and also speak at several civic organizations to describe this year’s Fair, which opens Wednesday, July 30 and continues through Saturday, August 2. Tia, Joanna, and Kayla are all very involved in school and community activities. Tia Piscitelli is active in both 4-H and FFA, breeding and exhibiting rabbits, horses, and dogs. She was named 2012 Yamhill County 4-H Girl of the Year and was a Delegate to the National 4- H Congress. Tia just completed her term as Newberg FFA Vice President. She is a three-time FFA state champion in science experiments and winner of gold and silver medals at the National FFA Convention. A member of the National Honor Society, Tia will attend Portland State University and major in Communications. In 2013, Tia represented the Shriner’s Hospital as their West Queen in recognition of her project Tia’s Tie Blankies, which has delivered 587 blankets to children throughout Oregon. Her parents are Vito and Wendy Piscitelli. In addition to participating at the Fair with market hogs, Joanna Kubes is the 2013-2014 President of the Dayton FFA Chapter and District. At Dayton High School, she has been involved in other leadership activities, including Student Body Secretary and Future Business Leaders of America. Joanna was the project coordinator for her school’s May 2014 Prom Committee. She is a member of the National Honor Society. Some of Joanna’s community activities include Young Life, AgStravaganza at the Dayton Grade School, and the community Easter Egg Hunt. She also volunteers at the Soup Kitchen and Food Bank. Joanna plans a career in agricultural sales and marketing and she is the daughter of Joseph and Julie Kubes. Kayla Davis was president of her 4-H club, Boots N Spurs. She is active in the Yamhill-Carlton FFA Chapter and also participates on the Oregon High School Equestrian Team (OHSET). Kayla has received three academic letters and a leadership letter at Yamhill-Carlton High School as well as National Honor Society membership. In addition to her academic achievements, Kayla lettered in varsity track, basketball, and OHSET with her horse project. She was the leader of the school’s Tech Crew. Her community service includes her church’s youth group, raking leaves for those in need, and Trick-or-Treat So Kids Can Eat. Her college goal is to get a degree in Veterinary Science. Don and Darcy Davis are her parents. Each Ambassador is awarded a $1,000 college scholarship. The scholarships are sponsored by generous donations from Cascade Steel Rolling Mills Inc., Yamhill County Commissioners, Yamhill County Master Gardeners Association and United Steelworkers Local 8378. Clothing, jackets, belt buckles, photography, and a parade car are sponsored by: Maurices, Inc.; Antonio’s Italian Restaurant; Newberg Veterinary Hospital; Ariant Golden Retrievers; Custom Embroidery by Jamie Cheslock; Forest Glen Jerseys; Yamhill Valley Camera Club; and Newberg Ford. “On behalf of the Fair Board, I want to sincerely thank all of the sponsors of our Ambassador program”, said Fair Board Chairman Gary Wertz.
