Yanukovitch is an unspeakably corrupt ass. But i think he has a point. If a country (defined by its mobile borders at some particular moment in time) has the right to determine its fate (and it does), why shouldnt the various sub-parts have the same right? Catalan. Basque. Scotland. South Sudan. Tibet. Texas. As long as the decision is legitimately made, and the sup part in question believes it can make a go of it on its own (or prefers to join a different larger entity), why not? Particularly within an even larger loosely joined entity which helps balance out inherent inequalities. I can envision the breakup of Europe into many more, smaller countries, each based on common cultural, linguistic and ethnic identity, (rather than on borders drawn and re-drawn by wars of power by a few hereditary leaders, or worse by completely external imperial powers), but also part of a single larger Europe. Thoughts?
