Yay! Well done to ISV volunteers working with Volunteer Africa 32 degrees South (our local project partner) who renovated a basic crèche (pre-school) in Vezinyawo township. Mandela Park crèche was just a shipping container where all classes, learning and cooking took place; however over the last few weeks ISV volunteers worked hard to complete the concrete slab, a path, a clothesline and a rubbish pit. They have also started building a new room (where all the cooking will be done), a vegetable garden, an educational-maze, a compost pit, and erecting a roof to keep the hot sun off the shipping container and provide a safe shaded area for the children. With a lot of work still to be done, ISV volunteers are working really hard to get all the goals completed before the end of the season. ~ Elliot Smith, ISV Project Leader, South Africa.
