Yeah, deep down, theres still a Karate girl in me and I choose to still practice the precepts even though I dont practice my kata as much as I should. Many tend to say that Karate lacks flow because it is a hard style (dont get me started about stereotypes that non-karate practitioners have about Karate), but I wholeheartedly disagree with that stereotype. When a Kata is performed correctly, the Kime (focus) flows even when a physical movement stops. It is not the endlessness of movement that makes flow in martial arts, its the endlessness of the intention coupled with the movement, that makes flow. Just because you move seamlessly doesnt necessarily mean your intention is there the whole time. This kids in the video, only 7 and 10 years old, embody mizu no kokoro, or a mind like water. I wont go into the analogy, but lets just say it is a reactive mind, not a passive mind, when, coupled with movement, results in flow. karatebyjesse/is-this-7-year-old-girl-the-future-of-karate/ -Sifu R.
