Yeah, fuel surcharges on plane tickets suck, especially given that they rarely reflect the actual fuel costs associated with the ticket. Plus there is the part where the fuel is a core component of the ability for a plane to get where it is supposed to go. They suck even more on award tickets, though a group of British Airways customers is hoping to address at least that part of the problem. Their lawsuit against the company will move forward based on a ruling late last week where a judge denied the motion to dismiss filed by BA. In short, the claim is that unless the fuel surcharges are actually variable and tied to the fuel costs they are probably not permitted based on the CoC and the BA Executive Club T&Cs. This ruling is procedural, not actually deciding anything other than that the case can continue to move forward.
