Year 10 and 11 Business Studies pupils are aiming to make money by playing the stock market! Since November they have been taking part in the Institute of Financial Services Student Investor Challenge. This competition involves teams investing £100,000 of virtual money in the stock market. Students need to keep their portfolio healthy by reading and forecasting market information provided online to identify shares and make judgements as to when to buy and sell in order to make a profit. The competition ends on 31 January and the top 20 or so teams from each region with the best performing portfolios will be invited to attend the regional finals. This challenge is the UKs premier investment competition with over 100,000 students from 2,500 schools benefitting from the experience in previous years. Miss Higson, who teaches Business Studies, runs this after school club to extend and broaden the understanding of her GCSE students.
