Year 1435 is about to come to an end. We are on New Years Eve. May our Lord accept all the good that we did in this year that has passed and overlook all the wrong that we committed. This year has been a difficult year for the nation of Muhammad, prayers and peace be upon him. Maybe if we end the year in a state of humility in front of our Lord intending to do better, Allah, Most High, will bring about monumental changes for the good. Tomorrow is the beginning of the next sacred month, Muharram. Amongst the best of acts within this month is to fast. A man came to the Prophet, prayers and peace be upon him, and said: Tell me of a month that I can fast after Ramadan. The Messenger of Allah, prayers and peace be upon him, said: If you are going to fast a month after Ramadan, fast Muharram because it is the month of Allah and in it is a day on which Allah turned to a nation (the nation of Yunus) and He will turn to others. (This is recorded by Tirmidhi and Ahmad) Lord, turn to the nation of Your beloved who are in pain and change our states in this coming year to the best of states. Give us strength after weakness, give us hope after despair, give us happiness after sorrow. Help the oppressed and downtrodden wherever they are. Ameen by the rank of the noble Prophet.
