Year 3+: Okay, its taken me a few days to regain my composure. In the last 3+ years weve experienced poor care, poor facilities, undesirable outcomes, etc. Ive never shared the names of the facilities or people because Ive tried to spare their reputation unless personally asked about our experiences with them. Ive always been honest when consulting with families about the good, bad, and ugly of the places Tyrel has received care. I havent felt that FB was the place to disclose that information...until now! The events of Christmas Eve were by far the most atrocious and disgusting thus far. When I called Tyrel to confirm a time for breakfast on Christmas morning, he didnt sound very good. I asked if he was okay and he said his head hurt because he had fallen and hit his head. After further discussion, I found out that Tyrel and the other patients had been left unattended in the home. The caretaker was not there, had not been relieved by another caretaker, and the group home owners (who also take part in caring for the patients) were not there either. One of the patients called 911 to have paramedics come and pick Tyrel up off the floor. After talking to Tyrel I called the owners of the group home to ask them if they would take Tyrel to the hospital. They assured me that Tyrel was fine...because the other patients said so?!?!?! I was flabbergasted by their response. It is NOT the responsibility of another patients to determine Tyrels welfare, nor are they qualified to do so! It was after that statement that the husband of the group home lashed out at me...screaming, yelling, and every cheap shot he could take. Not only did he try to insult me, he insulted Tyrel. I was told that Tyrel has been wetting the bed because he wants attention, that he fell on purpose to get attention, and that Ive falsely told him he can do things that hes not actually capable of. His insults to Tyrel were BY FAR the most infuriating but I was also deeply offended by the fact that he told me I had given up on Tyrel. To quote this poor excuse of a man, If its so easy Shawna, why arent you taking care of Tyrel? Why did you walk away from him? Why did you abandon him? I know my truth in this journey and I KNOW my husband. I know what Tyrels strengths, limitations, and habits are because Ive been here every step of the way. For someone to tell me that Tyrel Turner is wetting the bed and falling down on purpose is absolutely disgusting!!! He said these things in an attempt to shift the focus away from his negligent care. The conversation concluded when I told them to go get Tyrel and take him to the hospital. He then informed me that he wanted Tyrel out of that house, not because of Tyrel but because they didnt want to deal with me anymore. What they dont realize is that their dealings with me are far from over, even with Tyrel gone!!! FAR FROM OVER!!! Those jerks admitted Tyrel to the psych ER rather than the medical ER and never mentioned Tyrels fall. I called the hospital and pushed long and hard enough until I got the psych doctor on the phone so I could give him the true reason Tyrel was at the hospital. The doctors were very good about making sure Tyrel received appropriate treatment (for possible head injury versus suicidal episode). I am thankful the doctors listened! I picked up a very happy Tyrel from the hospital on Christmas morning, grabbed him his pancake breakfast to go, and took him to the airport. He flew home to his parents that afternoon. He successfully flew to Denver, caught his second flight to WY, and had no issues with incontinence!! We WILL pursue action against this group home for their many violations!! And for the first time in the history of this journey, I am posting for everyones awareness the name and location of this facility. This is a situation I just cannot let slide! The Haven 1223 E Richmond Ave Fort Worth, TX Owners: Derrel and Susie I will keep you all updated on the progression of the new place we are checking into for Tyrel. It is located in WY which is one of the reasons we flew Tyrel home. Tyrel is well and he is in great hands with his parents now...what a huge relief!!!
