Year of 1972 Document 13 The schools integration was a chaotic time for all residents of Plaquemines Parish. Private schools were built throughout the Parish. Barbara was an employee of the Parish so it was a necessity that we support the private school system as Judge Perez controlled the Parish with iron rule. Ricky joined the Naval reserve during his senior year at Port Sulphur high. After graduation he went to work for Freeport several months in the power plant. He was called to active service and served aboard the USS Dixie as a Navy corpsman during the Viet Nam war. He returned briefly to the power plant . Now attending LSU Baton Rouge. Michael attended Delta Heritage and will graduate this year. After hurricane Camille in 1969 which put 4 inches of water in our house we decided we should either bmove to Belle Chasse or build another house farther north in Port Sulphur. I didn’t care for the long ride plus the boat ride so we decided to build on the lot we had bought several years ago from Ms. Lee Hays in the hays subdivision which was 123 Fiddlers green. It was a stressful situation being my own contractor. The plumber wouldn’t show as planed which caused the brick mason problems and such. Mr. Walter Ancar framed it and roofed it. Hired a sheet rock installer and brick mason and we finished all else. A lot of hard work for us but we were used to that. A beautiful 3 bedroom ,two bath home ,Two car garage unattached . All this for $30,000. Unheard of now.
