Years ago I had insurance licenses and the Commissioner set the rates. Business lobbied and got what it wanted- It emasculated the Insurance Commissioners duties and priveleges. Blue Cross supposedly is non profit and in recent years they are all about profit - they just dont pay taxes on their enormous profits. Blue Cross and Blue Shield used to be one company and you paid onr premium for both. Their split from the doctors - Blue Shield means that you get to pay TWO PREMIUMS. Lucky you. These so and sos have gone crazy raising rates conspiculously like crazy, while I scratch my head in wonderment that anybody would sign on with them.
