Years ago, I stopped watching television because I objected to the ways that the networks packaged information for our consumption, particularly news. I felt they were doing great damage to my psyche, and probably society as a whole. I have since relied mostly on NPR for my news. I have always been a huge fan of NPR, but lately (in the last 4-8 years), I have grown more and more disillusioned with NPR news. They constant punditry and attempt to enliven the stories with conflict creating rhetoric have turned me off completely (for example, todays coverage of the ways the health care websites have had glitches/failures)--the choice was to cover the fighting among the congressmen and women who were pointing fingers and assigning blame, quoting angry and disappointed people--I was disgusted. Frankly, anyone who has ever been through the development cycle of something like that should know the difficulties it entails, but NPR has become lazy--they cover the anger and the bitterness, they cover the fighting, they cover the fingerpointing and call it news. Im seriously disgusted by them.
