Years ago, and on a different boat, I was the Relief Mate (second in command on the deck crew) for the captain who is riding the opposite watch of me on this boat Im on now. One day a young deckhand, who I supervised, forgot to bring up a cup when he made the captains coffee in the wheelhouse. So the captain called us up there, and told us to bring TWO coffee cups and a pair if zip-ties. He then zip-tied those two cups onto a belt loop on our work britches, and told us to wear them around for the rest of the day as a reminder to not be so forgetful. Humiliating? Sure. But all in good humor...and certainly effective at getting his point across, especially after I got through chewing on the deckhand for his blunder. And its sure given me and the captain a funny story to reminisce these past couple days.
