Years ago in my lifetime, Lynchings, Burning homes and physical abuse was prevalent in the Black Communities of the southern states. So much so that Black Families took to the highways, even though they were unable to stop along the way at the Howard Johnsons and Highway restaurants for a meal. The Courts in the south regularly found white suspects innocent of the crimes against Blacks. The court system had not found any white person guilty of killing a Black until well after 1965. Men freely wore White robes and hoods, rampaging through Black communities causing much fear. Many of these same southerners moved in to the Congress, voted in by their local communities, and protecting these shielded values they held so dear. Is there any wonder we are uncertain about a George Zimmerman conviction, even when it is so clear that he sought, stalked, and planned for the killing of this young teen, in a community development that Zimmerman did not even live in.
