Yeeeaaaa!! Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow! They got double my stem cells for my transplant, In one swell foop as Pastor Bob VanCise would say!! ;) Todays events are so glorious, funny and victorious I would be on here all night telling all! Marilee and I just want to say, Thank you and God bless you all for praying today - YOU ARE LOVED!! ;) The med staff I had today, started out with a smile and things just progressed to fun and laughter throughout my 6 1/2 hour of laying in that bed while the machine did the collecting!! Dont laugh now, but my one big accomplishment was, drum roll please, Prrrrrrrrrrrrr! I held #1 so I wouldnt have to use the potty chair!! This 62 year old guy can still do it!! ;) But when they unhooked me, I drank my juice Nurse Kari wanted me to drink all day and ran and jumped over every obstacle to the RR!! Okay, I walked fast!! ;) God brought some new people into our lives - the Phy Asst Andrew, Kari my RN that stayed with me the whole time, and Dawn the other RN, that had her own patient, but she kept coming back to chat and laugh with us. Her and Kari poked fun at each other, then turned it on us! ;) I got to share with Kari about my healing service and how all you guys were praying for us! That seemed encouraging to her. Andrew, would stop by every so often and have a laugh with us, especially when he tried explaining some of the problems I might experience with the machine, which I made jokes of! We all had a good time laughing with and each other! One serious moment though - some Delivery guy came in with some boxes and I said, Oh are those for me? He said, Yes!! Boy, did I get surprised! Kari sang, Happy Birthday to me, the whole song with the smelling like a monkey and all!! Come to find out, they had med supplies inside for ME to clean and change around my port and flush the tubes!! I told Kari, very nicely and calmly, HEY! I just got blindsided, no one ever told me this would happen!! She couldnt believe that I was not told. So, when she changed my dressing around my port, she had to teach Marilee how to do it!! You should have seen my poor Honeys face!! She hates, disdains, and gets sick at stuff like that!! Shes an Accountant, not Health Provider. She about barfed when Kari showed her how to lift the port line and clean under it to change it all around, and then their were syringes to flush both sides of the port!! After seeing Marilees face the whole time (actually it was cute, like a little kid being scolded!!), I decided to call for help! I called my Onc Center here and talked to Jan, whom I lovingly call, Mom, and told her what happened. I asked if she would take care of this, and she said, Yes!! I love her! All she needed was an order from Cheryl, the Transplant Coordinator. I asked Kari to call Cheryl, she did, and gave me the, Thumbs Up from her desk - it was taken care of and Marilee was off the hook! She thanked me profusely! I told Kari I was just scared that something could happen with infection, and then Id have to have my right shoulder amputated, then I wouldnt be all right, Id be all left!! I know, sick humor!! ;) So, let me end with this story that had nothing to do with my transplant, but to show how God can use anyone to bring out some good in someone. When Marilee and I left, we were told to go to the Bone Marrow side of the hospital and wait for a call about whether we needed to come back tomorrow or not. When we got to the elevators, there stood a very refined looking business woman in a nice suit, probably Admn., holding two cold Starbucks drinks. As I walked in, I said to her, Oh, you better hold on to those, I havent had anything for 7 hours! She gave me a polite smile. We made our way to the waiting area, sat down and I started texting my Compadre, Tom Holdeman, in Kansas City, KS, because he had started a series of texts with me first thing at 8:00 a.m. Marilee was working a puzzle with the family sitting by us whose 27 year son had Lymphoma. All of a sudden, I looked up and there stood the lady from the elevator! She held out the two cups she was holding, and said, Mocha or Strawberry? Whoaa, I said, caught by surprise, I asked her what her name was, she said, Linda, I said, Mocha with surprise and a smile. She handed me the Mocha, I thanked her and she turned with a smile and left! Evidently her friends left, because it was already after 5:00. She was an angel that God sent to me because earlier I was craving a cold coffee with whip cream!! Yes, family and friends, God Is Good All The Time!! Later - Ed & Marilee ;) ;) Now for next Tuesday and 2 1/2 weeks in.
