Sanofi Pasteur MSD, the Yellow Fever Vaccine manufacturers experienced an unexpected delay in the production of Yellow Fever Vaccine – a situation that is expected to persist well into January next year (2014). This shortage is expected to impact travellers particularly with destinations into Africa. This is a shortage, which means that some vaccination/ health centres will have stock; however, Chameleon Holidays would like to advise all travellers to consider the following tips: - If you are planning a trip during the Yellow Fever vaccine shortage, kindly consult with your doctor and/ or a vaccination centre well in advance in order to avoid any risks during your travel. - Make sure you are aware of/ understand Yellow Fever vaccine requirements of the destination you are travelling to months before your trip. - Ensure that if you are being advised of any alternative Yellow Fever vaccines then they are authorised by your country’s Department of Health. - The World Health Organisation has conferred that Yellow Fever Vaccines offer life-long protection; however, under the International Health Regulations Yellow Fever vaccines only offer protection for ten years, therefore, if you have already been vaccinated and are planning to travel during the shortage, consult with a health/ vaccination centre well in advance. - For more information, and if you have any further queries regarding the status of your Yellow Fever vaccination or the status of supplies of the vaccine in your country/ area, make sure you consult with a vaccine centre.
