Yeltz fans are excitedly looking forward to this season, their first in the Northern Premier. 50 years ago there was thrilling football at The Grove too, we regularly scored above 100 goals in a season. The picture shows The Grove in those days in a match against Stourbridge and before the 1980s construction of the tiered terraced. Players changed in a pavilion situated near the current Yeltz Bar and walked through the open Recreation Ground, stooping under the iron bar to get onto the pitch. Our no. 10 is Ray Russell and the no.9 is the prolific goalscorer David Eades. It was a time when teams at all levels often had a Scottish creative/goalscoring midfielder and The Yeltz were no exception. Facing David Eades is Alec Wood, who towards the end of the 1964/65 became one of our few players to net 5 goals in a match.
