Yep, the cards are all out on the table now, with four days to go. Between the editorials, letters, and comments, we know firmly who is on which side, and who is behind the naysayer side. I havent been naming them out of courtesy (after all, its not their names on the ballot, just their proxies), but theyre all outing themselves. If you read my piece earlier this week that I blogged and linked here, I dont really have bad things to say about the folks I serve with who are on the other side. Not so much the one who wants to get back on (him, I dont have a good word for), but the ones who are there arent horrible people. A couple of them are pretty reasonable people to work with and can also be very independent-minded. Im definitely not on the naysayer side. Nor are most of my friends. But that doesnt mean we all simply agree with everything that the administration wants to do, either. I learned from some of the best there have been at this job (like Joan B. Lovely, Robert McCarthy, Joseph A. OKeefe Sr., and Matt Veno) that the way to be effective isnt to shout on the Council floor, but to go and speak softly and persuasively in the Mayors office. Its about getting things done instead of grandstanding. We have people now who work that way. But not enough of them. In a few short days, lets get some more elected.
