Yes, I read it, and it touched me and moved me almost to tears. Tears for the lost moments to make memories with some of my grandsons. Not with the first one, Connor Haddock, who came along 10 years ago—I doted on him every single chance I had, and yes, we have danced in the rain--literally; we waded creeks and skipped rocks across them, and scratched his name and height on a tree by the creek. We dug shells and worms from the river bank, we climbed trees, we made mud pies and threw them at each other, we planted flowers in little pots and watched them daily until they sprouted, and he would shriek with delight. We waited in the hot summer sun for the ice cream truck, and laughed at each other while our popsicles melted on us faster than we could eat them. I taught him how to play baseball in my back yard when he was only two years old (the hardest part was teaching him not to run the bases backward). Yes, I cherished each and every moment I had with him, and I believe we made lots of memories. I had waited so long for grandchildren that I didn’t miss a single chance to make lasting memories for him and for me, and he taught me to dance, and to laugh at life again. It was the same with the second grandson, Porter Hollingsworth, who came along about 2 years later. Again, I didn’t miss a moment of memory-making times with him, and I truly cherished and made the most of every minute we had together when he was little. With both of them, I think I was remembering all the special moments I had missed with their parents. But then my life got busier, and as more grandsons were born, I realize now that I have neglected to spend as much quality time with them as I spent with the first two, much to my regret. I must now find the time to “dance in the rain” with them, too, every time I have the chance. To whoever submitted this post originally, thanks for reminding me how much I need to spend quality time with the other little ones in my life who I love so much.
