Yes, I said those responsible for negligence at JKIA should face the music. The MD of KAA has been relieved of his duties. JKIA is an international airport, it’s the busiest airport in East and Central Africa. It’s the core of our economy and anything happening there has serious economic and reputational ramification. The right fire system should have been able to detect smoke b4 fire erupted, triggered a fire alarm that would have alerted through an instant ring on mobile phones of key personnel including the MD not just alerting them of the fire but precisely where the fire was and a massive response would have been mounted. It turns out that there was no modern system, fire fighting facilities were not in the best form and the ground staff didn’t seem prepared to fight the fire without external forces. It’s the right message to the civil service that negligence and other malpractices will be punished severely and for this, the President has scores very highly
