Yes, Im a Veteran but I never faced any danger unless being screamed at by protesters counts. My son Max Walker, on the other hand, spent years in Iraq and Im ever conscience of the fact he came home intact and alive from a place many didnt. Take a moment today to not just offhandedly thank a Veteran, but to think about what they actually chose to do, especially if you never did. We chose to serve our country and had little control over where we were assigned. Many come back with injuries, some obvious some hidden. Many come back to job insecurity so if youre in a position to hire one, do it. I remember as a child Veterans were treated like shit, but the world has come to understand its not the vets fault they were sent to an unpopular war and now vets are more respected. Ive seen the change go almost the opposite direction to where all vets are revered as heroes. Few are heroes, most are just doing what they took an oath to do. Serve.
