Yes! It is true that we sometimes see after a conquest, the conquerors and the conquered becoming united by the nearest ties, so as soon to form one people, but this only takes place when they are attracted to each other by an identity of origin, of language, or of religion, by a communion of sentiments and ideas. Nothing is, we have seen, more impracticable than to unite two nationalities who follow diametrically opposite directions. While the one draws fatally back towards the abyss, the other advances with rapid strides in its ascending march. And the distance which separates them widens everyday. One of our children from South Africa said," Do you know that we grew up without mothers and fathers? Your Atses chopped off the breasts of our mothers , mutilated organs of our fathers." It seems that, today, embracing Ethiopianism (Menelekism) is like embracing a corpse to keep it on its feet, and those who have illusions on this subject, have seen successively vanish!
