Yes Mos Def is the topic again on my wall. I have come to the understanding of whats going on even more with this whole tradition and our culture defense being given to him by many. I will show that not only is he NOT doing anything Cultural or Traditional. He is actually being DISRESPECTFUL to the Ashanti Kingdom from where it comes from. The History and definition of Kente Cloth is as Follows. Kente cloth has its origin with the Ashanti Kingdom, and was adopted by people in Ivory Coast and many other West African counties. It is an Akan royal and sacred cloth worn only in times of extreme importance and was the cloth of kings. I want to stress the last point. KINGS. On a unrelated note. I was researching Kente Cloth before skirt gate I was looking for authentic kente from Africa.Cause I learned about the inferior version that is mainly sold in and to the western world. In turn, I learned how HARD it is to make WOVEN kente cloth. I want people to understand this. kente Cloth is Almotst the FIRST GUCCI. It was very Elite. In modern times they take about 8 MONTHS to make ONE Royal ROBE FOR A MALE. In ancient times, it might have taking well over a year maybe two. The common man could NOT afford this back then. ONLY Royalty could wear this.We as as Americans see kente as this African print...but its way deeper than what most of us fathom. As Americans, we dont see Woven Kente as much as we see Printed kente. Woven Kente even in modern times cost alot of money for an actual garment.90% of the kente we as american see is the PRINTED kind. Yes. people are passing around pics that have men in wraps in Africa....but that is not KENTE cloth. Thats some other print. We just see African print. NO. these prints have regions and kingdoms divided among them. In those other cultures or regions, its okay to wear that textile that way. You CAN NOT wear Kente as a wrap as a male. Its AGAINST THE RULES IN THE ANCIENT TRADITION OR EVEN MODERN TRADITION. Mos Def is in SOUTH AFRICA. DISRESPECTING....GHANA! People think its all African no its not! You will NOT Catch Males wearing KENTE CLOTH IN SUCH A MANNER. Nothing the brother is doing is paying Homage. He is actual being rude to the culture, taking something and wearing as a woman. Dude knows better. He was promised more Gold for his labor in my eyes. They want to tell you its African, to make you want to wear it and prob have women get brothers to put it on. Nobody ever gave us Africa and roots and cultures....till some damn SKIRTS. So there is no argument that can ever be placed for this dude as what he is doing is right. If he wants to wear wraps....go ahead homie. JUST TAKE THE KENTE OFF. Put on some other tribes Cloth....but TAKE THE KENTE OFF. Just Google. Kente Cloth MALE. AND FIND ME ANOTHER MOS DEF. He *IN* Africa but he did not learn all this??? FOH. Also....dont Listen to me. I found a picture with GHANAIANS telling you. That Traditional Shit is DEAD.....
