Yes, Norwegians are closer to nature than others, compared to other countries in Europe. Most Norwegians have a very active relation to nature. For many of them it has always been a neccesity - a matter of survival or not. Most of our country consists of WILD nature, 44% covered with mountains and higher plateaus. We have also huge forests (going through Sweden and Finland, even into Russia in the north - you may walk through forests from Oslo to Russia, without passing cities or villages), and we have an extremely long coastline, from south to north, with huge climate variations from south to north. (Like Chile). Norway´s coastline is 100 915 km, which is the next length of coastline in the wotld, after Canada. Tough climate conditions with huge variations - winter - spring - summer - autumn, - all variations which force people to deal with nature in a very active way, for surviving. This also have forced people to develop creativity towards natural changes and the nature demands. People from rural areas have often a survival of the fittest relation to nature, - to overwin nature, wanting to cultivate it. they are conquring with the nature and its many challenges. People from cities and towns in Norway have a more romantic relation to nature. But our cities are very, very small, compared to cities in the rest of Europe, and the rest of the world, so wild nature will always be within a short reach of the city center. City inhabitants in Norway have also different relation to nature: citisens with roots in the city (2-3 generations), are much more conscious about taking care of the nature, close to their city. The newcomers (1 generation), just arrived from north or the Norwegian countryside or rural areas, (or foreigners) are not the most eager users of the nature close to the city. There are also class differences in the cities. The working class have not so long traditions in using the nature in an active way as the upper classes. This has been changed a lot the last 50 years. There are not more inhabitants in whole Norway than in a big city in Europe.
