Yes. Why I let my kids wrestle, climb, build and dig. Why I - TopicsExpress

Yes. Why I let my kids wrestle, climb, build and dig. Why I listened to the boys wrestling in the backseat in the carpool, heard that it was important to them to gain strength and learn how to deal with pain and let them go on even when someone was yelling, OW! Why my kids went to waldorf schools, where the physical is allowed and nature not just respected but befriended and explored. Why I am ok with having my 17 year old driving his own car and giving rides to friends. He did get to take small risks all the way through childhood, and (while I still keep some watch out over his whereabouts) I believe he built the capacity to choose wisely. Why I am ok with my 19 year old, short, cute daughter taking public transit in Seattle. Why I was ok with her befriending unhealthy girls in high school. She has built her trust in her brain in her gut, until she knows who to trust, who to stay away from, how and when and who to ask for help. Kids learn by DOING, not by watching or being told.
