Yes, it is a nice song. But, since I am in America, I can say that, in my opinion, the focus is a bit misplaced. I happen to believe in God as the creator (and much more), so there are many happy, warm fuzzy moments when thinking that my beliefs should be trumpeted as a Constitutional Country’s views. But, I know in my soul and in my spirit, that taking such an approach, as a “solution” to OUR country’s problems, is not a patriotic, spiritual, or religious way to go. We are a Democracy. A melting pot. An experiment in empathy for our brothers and sisters. An experiment in tolerance for our brothers and sisters. An experiment in what happens when shouting and radio-airing name-calling and extremist manipulation meets a matching surge of claiming “right” over “just” and “fair” over “earned.” A test. A huge test. Every day. Let’s hold onto our religious beliefs and views as our lives depend on them. Let’s honor those views in interacting with those of different views. Let’s look for common ground. (It is plentiful) Let’s continue to argue over our disagreements – the marketplace of ideas. And (God help us to do so) respect each other at the beginning, middle, and end of every day. Let’s respect our Constitution, which demands that there is no national religion or set of beliefs to be the source of all our civil discourse. Let’s honor those brave founding fathers and mothers who represent an astounding array of views and beliefs, but who recognized the absolute value in honoring the spirit that guides each of us. Honoring the spirit that guides each of us. Democracy. Now to figure out the best way to address the value, or harm, of incredible amounts of money influencing the spirit that guides each of us.
