Yes, it is pronounced tooth taker. A dentist accused of stealing more than $16,000 worth of dental gold and equipment from the VA Medical Center in Omaha pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday. The U.S. Attorneys Office accused dentist Randall Toothaker, 58, in an affidavit of breaking into a co-worker’s locked cabinet last year to take precious metals owned by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs dental office. Toothaker appeared in federal court Wednesday with his attorney. He pleaded not guilty and declined to comment after court proceedings. He is not being held in jail. VA Special Agent Chris Tauai said the affidavit that a VA lab technician saw Toothaker put gold and other precious metals into a black and yellow bag and carry it to his vehicle in July 2013. After the items were reported missing, Toothaker left the office and headed to his car while Veterans Affairs police interviewed witnesses. Officers pulled over Toothaker, and he allowed them to search his vehicle, the affidavit said. Authorities recovered a bag of metals and dental equipment from Toothaker’s car. He reportedly told police he had no idea how the equipment got into his bag, Tauai said.
