Yes, thats right - Im standing on my Soap Box. I listened to President Obamas speech tonight with pride. My parents came to this country from Germany in the 1950s to live the American dream. My father was a master carpenter, who enjoyed a very long and lucrative career in construction and my mother became a beautician. They worked hard, saved, bought a house - and prospered. They became American citizens, learned to speak, read, and write English, and were very proud to live in this wonderful country of ours. They worked hard enough to send my sister and me through college. My parents were not alone - they were in good company with many other immigrants, who are the foundation of this great country. Sometimes it is important to remember that the more things change - the more they stay the same. The United States Of America is a great country - and many still want to come here to live, to be free, to live the American dream. And they should be able to legally. For those, who are here illegally, think about why they risked everything to come here (and I am not talking about the criminals). If there were no demand (because there are Americans who employ illegals so they can pay them less than normal wages) - there would be no supply. No one would want to come if they could not find work, right? I think what the President is proposing is a good start and I was very proud to hear his thoughts on the situation.
