Yes, we all remember where we were that day. As the planes were hitting the Towers, I was saying goodbye to patients and staff at Hazelden, Center City, MN masters degree in hand. While driving across the unnaturally quiet landscape of the mid-west, stopped at Notre Dame in Indiana for a memorial mass for the victims (one of their priests had been on the 2nd plane); arrived back in Darien, Ct, attended mass at St. John RC church celebrating the life of 60 Darien/Royalton residents killed on 911. Two weeks later, found me at my St. Ann/Archbishop high school alumni reunion in Queens, NY at a third memorial mass honoring 10 alums who were 911 victims; one of the fireman of later postage stamp fame raising an American flag, a fellow alumnus addressed us and in a private conversation relayed to me the Ground Zero events of that infamous day - indelibly seared on all our hearts. The time has passed, but the sadness remains. GG ♡
