Yes when a celebrity dies it captures worldwide attention. When a celebrity who embraced the underdogs and unexpected while also maintaining a stronghold on mainstream popularity via entertainment / keeping folks in stitches (and often tears) dies, it garnishes even more attention. YES There are millions of people battling depression and critical / fatal illness on the daily. There is unjust violence and brutality . There is war. There is greed and financial demise . And in the age of social media overload sometimes we just need a laugh to mentally cope and feel a glimmer of hope. Comedians bring THAT kind of joy despite whatever personal tragedy they may suffer. Sharing a moment when they touched your life personally or creating an opportunity to remember them is not necessarily opportunistic or coat-tail riding or fame-grabbing. Sometimes its simply sharing. And isnt sharing what brought us into this cyber arena to begin with? I love and appreciate the media soldiers and watchdogs out there bringing us the cold facts from the frontlines. But theres a multitude of heavy shite happening worldwide these days - I know folks feel overwhelmed (I do!) and the loss of a go-to artist/actor/comedian/musician etc. can exacerbate the impact of that heavy feeling. Entertainment can be used for the forces of good to soften the blow of evil. That is all. Carry on.
