Yesterday, 4-year-old Israeli boy Daniel Tregerman was killed when a mortar shell fired from Gaza struck his home in a kibbutz in southern Israel. Daniel was the first Israeli child to be killed in the current round of fighting between Israel and Gaza. Shooting at civilians cannot be justified: it is a grave breach of international law. Tragically, the fighting in recent weeks has taken a dreadful toll on children. In the Gaza Strip, more than 400 minors have been killed. Every one of them had a name, a loving family, and a life cut short. Legal analyses cannot convey the pain and moral repugnance over the death of yet another child, and another, and another. May they rest in peace.
