Yesterday BARK welcomed Percy. Sheri Lee Aanstad founder and director of Rez Dog Rescue came for a visit and she had two cuties with her. A good looking long-haired Chi mix dog and Percy a handsome ginger Pom mix. Sheri really likes the big dogs but she, like most of us, couldnt resist the charm of the Chihuahua and he remained in the pup-mobile. I scooped up Percy the Pom and carried him into BARK. He was still under the effects of anesthesia and didnt really know what was happening and that he was destined to live in a cattery for a while. Normally, Percy would have gone right into quarantine but that area is full of kittens, puppies and a nursing mama dog with 9 pups. Percy is aged 2-years or less and his little 10 pound body says hes been to hell and back. Sheris vet took an x-ray and found a gun pellet in his shoulder. No one knows if he was shot with a bb gun or a shot gun. All we know is that he has a bb in his shoulder. He was also bitten by a dog and has a 3/4 open gash on his shoulder about 3/8 deep. He was also neutered while he was under anesthesia. Sheri said he was covered with fleas. The vet used a flea spray on him and the fleas were still crawling on the vet table so they went ahead and gave him a full flea treatment. His thin frail body is covered with old scars. The volunteers pampered him during the volunteer meeting and in his drugged state appeared to enjoy it. He didnt even mind taking his Clavomox antibiotic Sheri brought for him. This morning Percy is fully aware of his surroundings and doesnt seem to mind sharing space with a colony of cats but he didnt like taking his Clavomox. He is very tender when touched and whimpers with pain. Vet-To-Go was called and Percy was prescribed some pain meds to go with his antibiotics. When Percys wound closes he will move to the dog room where he can make some canine friends but for now he is content making feline friends. Hes not talking much at the moment but hell give you his take on his life experiences when hes feeling better.
