Yesterday Chris Froome abandoned the Tour de France through injury. We’d like to extend our deepest commiserations to Chris, and note that the last defending champion to withdraw from the race through injury was The Badger himself, Bernard Hinault — and he returned later that same year to win the World Championships. Chapeau, Chris, we hope to see you back on the bike soon. Stage 5 was a hugely dramatic day of racing, suffused with tension, glory and heartbreak — the qualities that make road racing great. Few will miss Chris’s absence from the race as keenly as Rusty, Team Sky super-supporter and subject of our latest film series showing the team #doingthelittlethings. Rusty is one of Sky’s most dedicated supporters, following the team around the world and flying the colours of the world’s finest professional squad. Today the race moves south to Reims, the first of several stages that pull the peloton towards the Vosges Mountains. Their situation has changed but the team has plenty of work to do, and we’ll be cheering them on from the roadside along with Rusty.
