Yesterday, Congressman Peter King (R-NY) announced in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper that journalists who publish classified data should be prosecuted and punished. Apparently, Rep. King’s judgment has grown so twisted by his overriding interest in protecting America from “the terrorists” that the insanity of his remarks has either not occurred to him or, alternatively, King has decided that the iconic words of Patrick Henry no longer have relevancy in the post 9-11 era in our history. It was, of course, Patrick Henry who stood before the Virginia Convention—whose members in attendance included George Washington and Thomas Jefferson—and said, “Give me liberty or give me death.” Maybe Congressman King has just decided to follow suit with the Department of Justice who was willing to brand a journalist a criminal in a court filling because that journalist was doing precisely what he is paid to do —tell the American public what its government is doing. forbes/sites/rickungar/2013/06/12/gop-rep-peter-king-blows-away-the-first-amendment-to-catch-the-bad-guys/
